Bartłomiej Zajkowski

A Polish pianist and composer, Bartłomiej Zajkowski explores a wide range of musical traditions—both historical and contemporary—with originality and boldness. He is the creator of the “elChopin” project, the first-ever electronic and electroacoustic reinterpretation of Frédéric Chopin’s 24 Preludes, Op. 28. As a pianist, he specializes in 19th-century repertoire and improvisation. Since 2023, Zajkowski has served as the music curator of the “Kresy–Bezkresy” Festival in Tykocin.

He also excels in film music, having composed scores for numerous award-winning VR films such as “Kino”, “Nie kochać w taką noc”, “Dża Dża”, the TV series “Szadź” (TVN), as well as many documentaries and independent films.

In 2022, his music for the theatrical production “The Sun of Copernicus”, directed by Emilian Kamiński, received widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics. As Krzysztof Stopczyk wrote in e-teatr.pl:

“…[Bartłomiej Zajkowski’s] music brilliantly complements the entire performance. This is no ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’—if anything, it brings to mind the iconic soundtrack by Andrzej Korzyński for ”Academy of Mr. Kleks”. And we all know how legendary that was!”.

He is also the creator of multi-channel sound environments designed to enhance perceptual experience in art exhibitions and installations, featured in venues such as the Centre for Contemporary Art (CSW) and BWA Nowy Sącz. His music has accompanied happenings, performance art, and fashion shows.

Zajkowski has been playing the piano since the age of 12. He completed his piano studies with distinction under the guidance of esteemed professors, including Jan Ekier. He is a laureate of the Fryderyk Chopin National Piano Competition in Warsaw, organized by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute (TIFC).

He has performed at numerous prestigious festivals, including Duszniki-Zdrój, Żelazowa Wola, the Polish Piano Festival in Słupsk, La Folle Journée, Warsaw Autumn, Musica Electronica Nova, and Kwartesencja, premiering works by composers such as Hanna Kulenty, Dariusz Przybylski, Andre Werner, Aleksandra Gryka, and Adrian Foltyn.

Zajkowski has performed and collaborated with renowned ensembles and soloists such as the Camerata String Quartet, AUKSO Orchestra, Polish Radio Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Jakub Jakowicz, Royal String Quartet, Kwadrofonik, and Kwartludium.

In 2020, as part of a grant from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, he led a concert and improvisation series titled “Zajkowski na dobranoc”.
