Ignacy Zalewski
Composer, educator, and conductor, born in 1990 in Lublin. From 2009 to 2014, he studied composition under Professor Marcin Błażewicz at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, graduating with highest honors. In 2014–2015, he was a student of Professor Krzysztof Penderecki. During his studies, he also participated in numerous courses and workshops led by prominent composers such as Professor Wolfgang Rihm (Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe), Professor Lowell Liebermann (Mannes College The New School for Music, New York), and Professor Vladimir Scolnic (Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance).
Author of music for dozens of productions across theatre, film, television, and radio.
In the field of film and television, he has collaborated with institutions and companies such as WFDiF, Netflix, Bagatela Studio,
Teatr Telewizji (TVP), TVP Kultura, and Granator Studio.
Plays featuring music by Ignacy Zalewski have been staged at some of Poland’s most prominent theatres, including the J. Słowacki Theatre in Kraków, the Dramatyczny Theatre in Warsaw, the Jewish Theatre in Warsaw, the Silesian Theatre in Katowice, and the L. Solski Theatre in Tarnów. The composer maintains an ongoing collaboration with Polish Radio Theatre.
Ignacy Zalewski holds a post-doctoral degree (habilitated doctor) in musical arts and is a professor at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music.
Since 2014, he has been a faculty member at his alma mater, and since 2020, he has led a composition class. From 2020 to 2024, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Composition and Music Theory. As of September 1, 2024, he holds the position of Head of the Department of Composition.
He has been a member of the ZAiKS Authors’ Association since 2012 and currently serves as Chair of its Audit Committee. Ignacy Zalewski is also a board member and treasurer of SPACe – the Society of Polish Audiovisual Composers. Additionally, he is a member of the Polish Composers’ Union.
