Magdalena Sowul aka. Panilas

Magdalena Sowul, also known as Panilas, is an artist, composer, music producer, vocalist,
and clarinetist. She holds a classical music education from the Gdańsk Academy of Music,
along with specialized courses in music production, mixing, mastering, and DJing.
Her artistic work spans experimental, electronic, and improvised music. She creates music
for theatre productions, films, radio plays, and podcasts, often collaborating with socially
engaged artists. Magdalena is a member of the jazz quartet Helicopets, co-creates the
alt-rap duo Lesbijski Groove, and leads the band Ugla, which blends folk with electronics
and dreamlike poetry.
In 2024, she composed the opening music for the series “Śleboda” (produced by
SkyShowtime), where she embraced a distinctive, cinematic sound that builds an
atmosphere of mystery and unease. She has also composed music for productions such as
“Lucciola” (dir. A. Neyman), “1.11” (dir. M. Wojdyło) and “Hem” (dir. K. Kultys).
As Panilas, she made her debut with the solo album “Gynoelectro” (Mystic Production,
2022), which received widespread critical acclaim. It was hailed as one of the most
interesting debuts of the year by media outlets such as Gazeta Wyborcza, Interia Muzyka
and Muno.pl. Her work blends danceable beats with melancholy, exploring feminine
experiences through sound.
Sowul is also socially active – she hosts the podcast “Słyszane, czyli podcast o muzyce i
płci” (“Heard, a podcast about music and gender”) and has worked as a streetworker
and cultural animator. Her work combines art with social and feminist reflection, making her
one of the most distinctive and engaged figures in the contemporary music scene in Poland.
